Assessment of Electricity Productivity in China: Regional Differences and Convergence

Electricity productivity is regarded as a major assessment indicator in the design of energy saving policies, given that China has entered “New Normal” economic development. In fact, enhancing electricity an all-round way, one binding indicators for and environmental issues, means non-growth target total electric consumption development feasible. The Gini coefficient, Theil index, Mean log deviation are utilized to measure regional differences China’s from 1997 2016 five regions, conditional β convergence empirically analyzed with spatial Durbin model. results show that: (1) improving, while overall feature eastern area higher efficiency than western area. (2) difference smallest northeast largest northwest. Interregional plays important role main cause differences. (3) exhibits convergence, except positive driving factor urbanization level (0.0485%), negative FDI (–0.0104%). Moreover, rate (0.0669%), foreign direct investment (0.0960%), industrial structure (–0.0769%) have spillover effect on improving productivity. Based this conclusion, study provides some recommendations policy power industry.
